Presidents of the Republic, Speakers of the Grand National Assembly,
and Ministers between 1971 and September 1973:

1st Erim Government (26.03.1971-11.12.1971): The President of the Republic of Turkey, Cevdet Sunay assigned the mandate to form the new government to Kocaeli Independent Party Prof. Nihat Erim in lieu of Prime Minister Süleyman Demirel, who had resigned as a result of the March 12th memorandum. Erim formed an above-party government and took office. 370 votes were cast in the vote of confidence held on April 7, 1971. 321 votes were in favor of the new government, and 46 were against it. There were three abstentions. 75 deputies did not participate in the voting. Prime Minister Erim resigned on December 3, 1971 due to the fact that 11 Ministers had resigned from his cabinet.

2nd Erim Government (11.12.1971-22.05.1972): The President of the Republic of Turkey, Cevdet Sunay assigned the mandate to form the new government to Nihat Erim, who resigned as deputy on October 10, 1971 and who was appointed as a quota Senator on October 11, 1971. Erim formed an above-party government. 349 votes were cast in the vote of confidence held on December 22, 1971. 301 deputies were in favor of the new goverment, and 45 were against it. There were three abstentions. 93 deputies did not participate in the voting. Erim resigned on April 17, 1972 for heath reasons. Upon his resignation, the mandate to form the new government was assigned to Suat Hayri Ürgüplü. But Ürgüplü’s Cabinet was not accepted by the President of the Republic, Cevdet Sunay, as it did not comply with the March 12th Memorandum.
