Local elections in spring 2004 resulted in the victory of the AK Party, which won 12 metropolitan and 46 city municipalities with 42.09% of the total vote. The CHP won 18.37% of the vote, while the MHP was the third party to pass the 10% threshold.

As a result of the fact that voting in TBMM (Grand National Assembly of
Turkey) to elect 11th President of Republic of Turkey for the
Office of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer whose term of office expired on May
16, 2007 came to naught, TBMM decided to hold Deputy General Elections on
July 22, 2007 which, in fact, should be held on November 2007, and held
early elections. |

Participation rate in the early Deputy General Elections
on July 22 was 84.25 %. AKP, CHP and MHP won 46.58 %, 20.88 % and 14.27 % of
the valid 35.049.691 votes respectively and thus entered TBMM as the three
political parties passing 10 % country threshold. Moreover, 26 independent
deputy candidates qualified for entering TBMM. |

| 13 DSP deputies, who participated in the elections in the
common list with CHP, left CHP and joined DSP, 20 of independent deputies
joined DTP, one independent deputy joined BBP and one deputy joined ÖDP. |

| Thus, in TBMM, the number of the parties which are able to
form groups by having more than 20 deputies is 4 and the number of the
parties represented is 7. |

20, number of DSP deputies is 13, number of BBP deputies is 1 and number of

| Deputy of Kayseri for AKP and the Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Abdullah Gül, has been elected as the 11th President of
the Republic of Turkey in the 3rd round of balloting which was
taken for electing the President of Republic in TGNA (Turkish Grand National
Assembly) on 28 August 2007 and has taken the office from 10th
President of Republic, Ahmet Necdet Sezer same day. |

Government, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has submitted the new government list to
the President of Republic, Abdullah Gül, and the council of ministers, which
was affirmed by the President of Republic, has started its office as the 60th
Government of the Republic of Turkey
