Education is one of the fundamental functions of the state
and performed under state control and supervision. The Ministry
of National Education is responsible for offering the educational
services. The right to education is ensured by the Constitution.
The Turkish national education system, designed to meet the educational
needs of individuals, is composed of two main divisions,
formal and non-formal education which com-plement each other.
Over 26 million students were educated
in the 2009-2010 school year.
