Chief Advisor to the President and Director General of Press and Information Mehmet Akarca came together with the Directorate General’s staff on the eve of the Eid al-Fitr. Expressing his wish to continue with celebrating much more feasts under the same roof, Akarca stated that devotedly work would go on also following the Presidential and General Elections to be held on June 24 and said: “We will be much more eager and energetic as well as work and project-oriented.

Delivering a speech at the celebration, Director General Akarca pointed out that they were on the eve of both Eid al-Fitr and also a New Period, Akarca said: “You are aware of how this election is critical for Turkey. I hope that same determination continues also during the next period so that we can go on with the position of our country, which is completely eliminated from terrorism and proceeds with this rapid development.”

Akarca pointed to the performance of the 16-year AK Party governance and added: “Are we able to say that we had the most of something in the world before? But, we can say now. The 15 km-length Ovit Tunnel which was opened yesterday, is the second longest tunnel of the world constructed with the double tube system. Following the Ramadan Holiday, the third airport of İstanbul will be opened and it will be biggest airport of the world. Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is the widest, longest and highest bridge of the world on which rail system passes. Marmaray, Eurasia Tunnel and the nuclear power stations that we will have... These are unique examples seen throughout the world. We are proud of this situation. We wish Allah will let to continue with this honor.”

Reiterating the success of events organized by DGPI including “A Ramadan Night” attended by ambassadors and mission chiefs of almost 30 countries and the ‘Local Media Meetings’ which have brought together local media members and ministers as well as deputies, Director General Akarca recalled the laudatory remarks offered by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım about DGPI. Akarca said DGPI would continue to fulfil its mission of raising awareness.

Director General Akarca also heralded the opening of a library consisting of documents and books from the archives of DGPI dating back to 1800s. He said the library would open its doors after Eid al-Fitr, and continued: “President Erdoğan unravelled his “national kıraathane (reading houses)” project. In this context, we will be opening a kıraathane under our Directorate General. We have very valuable publications and wish to open our precious collection to public.”

Following his speech, Director General Akarca exchanged Eid al-Fitr greetings with DGPI staff.
