Holding a joint press conference with U.S. President Trump following their meeting, President Erdoğan said: “It is of great importance that we exhibit solidarity against all terrorist organizations in the region, DAESH in particular. We are committed to fighting all kinds of terrorism, without any discrimination whatsoever, that impose a clear and present threat upon our future. There is no place for terrorist organizations in the future of our region. Taking PYD-YPG terrorist organization into consideration in the region, no matter which country does it, certainly does not fall in line with the global agreement that has been reached on this matter.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Donald Trump of the United States of America (U.S.) held a joint press conference following their meeting at the White House.
Thanking President Trump for the meeting and congratulating him on his legendary victory in the elections, President Erdoğan said that they discussed the current situation of the deep-rooted Turkey-U.S. relations, which have reached the level of strategic partnership.
“KEEPING OUR RELATIONS STRONG IS OF IMPORTANCE TO GLOBAL PEACE AND STABILITY”
Stating that the ties between Turkey and the U.S. have been erected upon common democratic values and common interests, President Erdoğan said: “Keeping our relations strong is of importance to not only our mutual interests but also global peace and stability. During this turbulent period our region is going through, the close cooperation between our two countries has grown more important than ever.”
Pointing to the close cooperation between Turkey and the U.S. in key organizations such as the United Nations, NATO and G20, President Erdoğan said: “We are determined to bolster our dialogue and solidarity even more in all areas, particularly on these platforms, in the upcoming period. I believe my visit will mark a historical turn of tide in this regard.”
“TAKING PYD-YPG TERRORIST ORGANIZATION INTO CONSIDERATION DOES NOT FALL IN LINE WITH THE GLOBAL AGREEMENT”
“Whether it be throughout our bilateral discussions, whether it be the discussions that we shall have between the delegations, I think we are going to enjoy some further gains in terms of the future of our relations. We agree on expanding our cooperation in economy, trade, investment, energy and defense industry. It is of great importance that we exhibit solidarity against all terrorist organizations in the region, DAESH in particular. We are committed to fighting all kinds of terrorism, without any discrimination whatsoever, that impose a clear and present threat upon our future. There is no place for terrorist organizations in the future of our region. Taking PYD-YPG terrorist organization into consideration in the region, no matter which country does it, certainly does not fall in line with the global agreement that has been reached on this matter,” the President said.
“I WILL VERY FRANKLY COMMUNICATE OUR EXPECTATIONS WITH REGARDS TO FETO”
Underscoring that those, who want to change the religious and ethnic structure of the region by using terrorist organization’s activities as a pretext, should not be allowed to do so, President Erdoğan said: “Those, who want to turn the chaos in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya into an opportunity, will eventually lose. The solidarity and close cooperation of two allies is enough to defeat murderous networks. As I have done so far, I will very frankly communicate our expectations with regards to Fetullah Terrorist Organization, the perpetrator of the July 15 coup attempt.”
Noting that they have reviewed joint steps which can be taken in Syria and Iraq, President Erdoğan said U.S. President Trump’s election victory has led to new expectations and hopes in Turkey’s region, and added: “We believe the new U.S. administration will not let these hopes go in vain. We especially find the resolute stance, taken in the aftermath of the latest chemical attack by the Syrian regime, very appropriate.”
“PREVIOUS MISTAKES IN THE FIGHT AGAINST TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS SHOULD BE MADE UP FOR”
“We hope steps that will make up for the previous mistakes in the principled and resolute fight against terrorist organizations will be continued,” President Erdoğan said, highlighting the importance Turkey-U.S. cooperation in restoring regional stability and security. President Erdoğan ended his statement as follows: “We are determined to intensify our consultations with Mr. Trump and continue our cooperation in a more resolute way. I hope the new era, whose foundations have been laid today, will lead to auspicious results for our countries. I thank Mr. President for his kind invitation and hospitality. I would like to express that I am looking forward to hosting him and his family in my country as soon as possible.”
