Southern Marmara: Çanakkale, Balıkesir and Bilecik provinces are located on the southern coast of the Marmara Sea. The Çimenli and Kilitbahir citadels dating back to the 15th century provide exceptional beauty to the Dardanelles Strait. The 42-meter high Çanakkale Monument of the Fallen at the southern end of the National Park was erected in memory of the 500,000 soldiers, both Turkish and allied troops who had fallen in battle on the Çanakkale front during the First World War.
