Pistachio is one of the most important sources of income in the region.

 
Project; the Return to Villages and Rehabilitation Project; the Central Village and Return to Villages Development Project; the Search, Excavation and Rescue Mission for the Hasankeyf Historical and Archeological Site; the Project for the Improvement of People’s Income Level in Nonirrigated Areas; the Project for the Development of Animal Husbandry in the GAP Region; and the Agricultural Research Project. The GAP Administration has many other projects in agriculture, infrastructure, mapping, development and environment fields, all of which are based on a sustainable human development approach as well as the principles of participation, equality and justice.
 

 

 
 
 
 
  GAP on International Platforms  
 
Projects Carried out Jointly with International Organizations: The “Sustainable Development Program” is carried out jointly with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and receives joint financing from the Swiss Development Agency and other international organizations. This 5.9 million USD program comprises 33 subprojects. The first phase of implementation has already been completed in a number of projects within the scope of the program, including the Juvenile Street Laborers Rehabilitation, Vocational Training Aiming at the Youth, Support for Women Entrepreneurs and Subregional Implementation for Integrated Rural Development. The second phase of implementation, however, attaches priority to those projects aiming at the women, youth and children.
 
The EU-GAP Regional Development Program: This program has a total budget of 47 million Euros and aims to improve the social and economic conditions of the people living in the region. It also supports the goals of the National Program such as reducing the imbalance in development among the regions, providing informative services for producers, increasing the rate of employment and attaining sustainable economic development.
