| Within the framework of the National Program, renewed in 2003, a project named Technical Support Project for the Improving of the Institutional Capacity at the Field of Chemicals has been initiated. The aim of the project is to prevent the negative effects of the chemicals on the environment and public health. The project will be completed by May 2007. |

| In the meantime, almost 50% of the efforts to harmonize the EU laws and rules which comprise 300 EU directives with the Turkish legislation have been completed. This issue will be an important leg of the accession talks with the EU to be taken up under the chapter heading of environment. The harmonization process in the field of environment is expected to be completed by 2014. |
