As for poetry, the easy-to-follow spoken language was replaced with a type of expression based on the association of words within a fancy order set up by the poet. This concept of poetry, illustrated in the works of poets such as Arif Nihat Asya, Cemal Süreya, Edip Cansever, Turgut Uyar, Ece Ayhan, İlhan Berk, Enis Batur, Özdemir Asaf and Kemal Özer, developed various orientations in later years.

In the period following 1960, social themes gained priority and the quest for new techniques and forms led to the enrichment of the Turkish language. Although the influence of the Second New Wave and the search for new forms were significant in the early works of young poets such as Yavuz Bülent Bakiler, Osman Atilla, Ayhan İnal, Feyzi Halıcı, Ataol Behramoğlu, İsmet Özel and Hilmi Yavuz who had started to write poems at the beginning of the 1960s, it is observed that their later works were influenced by the general tendency in poetry. The ongoing debates in the field of novel and short stories concerning the rural-urban issue became more widespread with the introduction of various theses on the social structure. Authors such as Orhan Kemal,  Yaşar  Kemal and Kemal Tahir continued to produce works in their own lines in the 1960s, too. On the other hand, authors such as Samim .Kocagöz, Attila İlhan, Tarık Buğra, Hasan İzzettin Dinamo and İlhan Selçuk would rather deal with recent history in their works.

In addition, Adalet Ağaoğlu was the first to employ the “flow of consciousness” technique in Turkish literature.
