ceramics training started. The first private ceramics studio was established by Füreyya Koral in the mid-1950s; and many artists such as Füreyya Koral, Sadi Diren, Nasip İyem, Bingül Başarır, Candeğer Fürtun, Atilla Galatalı, Beril Anılan-mert, Hamiye Çolakoğlu, Zehra Çobanlı and Jale Yılmabaşar produced world-class works of art since 1949.
 
  Ömer Bakırer got the award in the field of ceramics of the Art Association in 2005-2006.  

Photography: The increasing importance attributed to artists and arts in line with Atatürk’s encouragement proved effective in the art of photography, too. Whereas photography was mainly carried out by non-Muslims in Turkey, Turkish photographers started to increase in number and also gain importance with the establishment of the Republic.

     
Cemal Işıksel, Nurettin Erkılıç, Selahattin Giz, Limasollu Naci, Şinasi Barutçu Barutçu, İhsan Erkılıç and Baha Gelenbevi were the first prominent photographers of the Republic era. The outset of Turkish photography in terms of gaining a real identity and manifestation, on the other hand, took place in the beginning of the 1960s. Especially the nomination of Ara Güler among the world’s seven star photographers in England in 1961 was the first indication that Turkish art of photography began to have a special place in the world.
Turkish art of photography started to achieve strength and eminence thanks to artists such as Ozan Sağdıç and Sıtkı Fırat who photographed various places in Turkey with a genuine perception; Zeynel Yeşilay who produced outstanding work in various fields of photography; Gültekin Çizgen, who based his work on local motifs; and Şahin Kaygun, who introduced a genuine approach to photography with his quest for novelty. Sabit Kalfagil, İsa Çelik, İzzet Keribar, Şakir Eczacıbaşı, Cengiz Karlıova, İsa Özdemir, İbrahim Demirel, Sami Güner, Mehmet Bayhan, İbrahim Göğer, Çerkes Karadağ, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Ramazan Öztürk, Gökhan Demirer, Cengiz Engin, Orhan Cem Çetin, Merih Akoğul and Coşkun Aral are also among artists who deserve attention with their works.
 

A step forward was taken to organize the artists in 2003 with the establishment of the Turkish Federation of the Art of Photography.

 

The Institute of Photography Art and Adnan Polat received the Art Association’s award in the field of photography in 2005-2006.

 
The 12th State Photograph Contest, which is held biennially took place in 2006 in order to bring new works to the state collection and contribute to the development of photo art by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
